MCP for agents

Give Claude, Cursor, and other MCP clients a context layer over your Pocketmind library.

Pocketmind exposes an MCP server so agents can retrieve from your saved knowledge instead of guessing from the public web. Your library becomes the agent's trusted context layer.

Before you connect

  1. Sign in to the Pocketmind app.
  2. Save at least a few sources you care about.

Connect with OAuth2 (recommended)

Prefer OAuth2 when your client supports Streamable HTTP. You sign in once to your Pocketmind account, then pick workspaces and permissions — no API key to create or paste.

  1. In the app, open Settings → API Keys and copy the OAuth connect snippet (labeled Claude Code · OAuth).
  2. Run it in a shell that has the Claude CLI, for example: claude mcp add --transport http pocketmind 'https://mcp.pocketmind.ai'
  3. In Claude Code, run /mcp, sign in when prompted, and select the workspaces and permissions you want the agent to use.
  4. For ChatGPT, Cursor, or Claude Desktop, add the same MCP URL (https://mcp.pocketmind.ai) in that client's MCP / connectors settings and complete the OAuth sign-in flow there.
  5. Ask a question that requires your private sources and check citations.

Connect with an API key

Use an API key when OAuth is unavailable, you need a headless / CI client, or your deployment only exposes stdio MCP. Create a key with at least one MCP-capable scope and the workspace grants you need, then copy the generated snippet from Settings → API Keys.

  • Claude CLI (HTTP + Bearer) — when remote MCP is on, the app copies a claude mcp add --transport http … command with an Authorization: Bearer header.
  • Shell / stdio — otherwise you get export POCKETMIND_API_URL=…, export POCKETMIND_API_KEY=…, and a uvx … pocketmind-mcp command. Run those exports in the same shell before starting an MCP-capable client that can attach to a stdio server.
  • Cursor / Claude Desktop JSON config — map the same URL/key (or stdio command) into that client's MCP settings manually; the copied snippet is not a drop-in Cursor or Desktop config file.

What agents should do

  • Search your library for relevant items
  • Summarize with citations back to saved sources
  • Stay inside the workspace permissions you granted

Example prompts for agents

  • "Using Pocketmind, what have I saved about onboarding drop-off? Cite sources."
  • "Find my notes on the Q3 competitor pricing research and outline risks."
  • "Which PDFs mention data retention, and what do they say?"
